5. Island grid coupling
Small wind turbines can be connected to island grids in different ways. In AC –coupled systems the aeocon converter is the ideal solution for small wind turbine integration. It supports the droop mode of AC-coupled island grids keeping the wind turbine at its optimum power point while sending the surplus power to a ballast resistor.

In DC-coupled systems charge controllers are required. Generally, two different types of charge controllers are available: Wind turbines applying a generator with battery charging characteristic need a chopper limiting the charging voltage according to the battery charging strategy. Wind turbines using a generator with a low winding impedances, a so called stiff generator need a charge controller integrating a buck and/or boost converter taking the voltage to the battery charging level.
INENSUS develops and manufactures customer specific battery charge controllers for small wind turbines according to the small wind turbine manufacturer’s requirements.
