Within the last 20 years the mechanical concepts of small scale wind turbine developers and manufacturers have been matured and some reliable and cost effective small scale wind turbines are available on the market. Some countries like GB, Italy, Portugal and some states of the USA have political support structures for grid-connected small wind turbines. Here, selling electricity to the grid can be profitable. Unfortunately, in many other countries grid connection of small wind turbines does not experience political support. Furthermore, frequent technical problems with power electronics, operation control or other components in grid-connected and mini-grid systems prevent continuous and reliable operation.
