Fascinating technology
Thanks to increased political support for small scale renewable energy systems as well as evolving ecological awareness of consumers, the application of small scale wind turbines for decentralized electricity generation is being established.
INENSUS defines small scale wind turbines to be in the range of 1 to 50 kW according to IEC 61400-2:2006 standard. Within the last years, many small scale wind turbine manufacturers have improved the mechanics of their turbines for continuous operation. Yet, the weakest link in wind turbine concepts has been power electronic components for grid integration and operating control. With its innovative services and products INENSUS is aiming at this interface between mechanics and electronics applying mechatronic approaches.
Significant technical potential lies in the combination of small scale wind turbines with other power conversion components. For instance, cost efficient 100 % renewable heating can be realized in the near future combining wind turbines with heat pumps; economically viable electricity supply from 100 % renewable sources may be realized by a combination of wind turbines with biogas plant and drinking water supply in rural areas can be established through a combination of wind turbines with reverse osmosis plants or air moisture condensers.
Power generation solutions integrating small wind turbines offered by INENSUS means cost effective supply of electricity, water and heat in rural areas. Through political support the market potential for this kind of technology is large in industrial countries, but developing countries are catching up establishing political programs to facilitate rural electrification.
